Are you tired of the same old thing at the movies. Are you tired of the same old action sequences, often by the same old actors? Are you tired of being treated like an idiot-of-the-masses by movie businessmen? Then come to the cinema now and have your spirit renewed by Kick-Ass. Have restored that long jaded and dead part of the movie going experience that you loved (or at least appreciated) so long ago. Over the years, I have come to despise over-the-top action sequences, especially when they involve an invulnerable macho killing machine. I typically avoid movies that advertise these, and shake my head in disgust if I find myself forced to witness them. Can anybody say Rambo IV. However,Kick-Ass, primarily due to Hit Girl (Choloe Moretz) scenes, has brought back joy to me regarding action scenes. You can say this is due to a gimmick in using an 11 year old girl, but that is wrong. It is originality and style that has been missing. It is genuine creativity that is absent. Action scenes have become just canned commodities that the movie business judges as a profit vehicle. I just went to my 3rdviewing of Kick-Ass, and I have been more impressed by each viewing.There are many elements in this movie to be appreciated, which other reviewers have aptly described. I found the father daughter relationship between Cage and Moretz to be incredibly touching and heartfelt, despite it's ludicrous context. Action sequences are not even a priority for my movie-going experience. But they are done so well in this movie, that I had to point this out to others who have been jaded and discouraged like me. Go see Kick-Ass for any reason. But go see it for these incredible action sequences as well. They are clever, exciting, and stylistic. They are unique in all cinema,especially in this business-jaded age.

Movie review of The Spy Next Door
Any movie that cuts away to family pets for reaction shots to jokes can’t be aspiring beyond pleasing children as its one and only go. As a corollary, any covert intelligence agency that employs George Lopez and Billy Ray Cyrus in key management positions is not meant for a moment to be taken seriously. We can be sure that The Spy Next Door is just a kids movie.

There was a time when Jackie Chan films meant serious kung-fu action, but few in the West remember or care about such ancient history. Most remember the over-the-top, dance-like choreography of the gymnastic fight scenes and “he really did it himself!” stunts that made Chan’s lighter-themed action flicks also his biggest hits. But age slows down even the most diligent of martial artists, and Jackie Chan is clearly no self-deluded, aged action hero banking on a faded and fatted tough-guy image. (Ahem, Steven Seagal.) Chan already had a cartoon version of himself on Saturday morning TV, and in his recent cinematic adventures he’s been playing live-action characters that can only be described as cartoonish. But not necessarily cartoonish in a bad way.

The aggressively family-friendly plot of The Spy Next Door casts Chan as Bob Ho, a Chinese secret agent who has been on loan to the CIA. He lives a lush life in a large suburban home and has somehow managed to woo Gillian, the beautiful blond next door (Amber Valletta), despite his nerdy cover persona as a pen importer. They’ve been dating three months, and everything’s going great. Ho plans to retire and really try and settle down with her, but there’s just one problem: Her three kids totally hate him. But when Gillian needs to leave town to tend to a sick father (nothing tragic — broke his hip playing softball, the old codger), Bob volunteers to watch the kids, and by gum, he’s gonna make them love him if it kills him. Let’s just hope the dastardly Russian villains from his last case don’t target him and the kids and really complicate matters.

Despite my jaded, childless life, I find myself mildly charmed by Chan’s heartfelt and bumbling attempts to win over the three brats. This movie pulls out all the stops when it comes to plucking at heartstrings, and the kids do a decent job acting their roles as rebellious teen, nerdy over-achiever and adorable rascal, respectively. By the time the ridiculous Russian bad guys come back into the story, I almost found them a distraction. There hadn’t been a fight scene for ages, but I sort of didn’t mind. And when the action did start, it was, by Chan standards, almost low key. But each fight has enough acrobatic madness to keep the kids clapping (lots of clapping kids at the screening I attended), and the level of violence never passes the point of slapstick.

The Spy Next Door has some problems with pacing, especially in the middle, and every performance in the movie is as broad as the Mississippi Delta, with lots of mugging for the camera and metaphorical mustache twirling from the bad guys. Aimed squarely at kids, it doesn’t offer much for their parents and not a thing for someone looking for a thrilling action experience. It seems to know its limits and adheres very strictly to them, never asking too much of its actors, story or audience. Chan can hardly speak English and is sometimes hard to understand, but he exudes charm and a cuddly loveability that make him impossible to not like on some level. If you don’t have a child in tow you’re eager to entertain, then The Spy Next Door isn’t for you. If you want to see your lovable urchin practicing kung-fu kicks in the lobby after having a fun time, then it probably is.

Synopsis The Ugly Truth

Abby Richter (Katherine Heigl) is a morning show TV producer in Sacramento, California. Coming home from a disastrous date one night, she happens to see a segment of a local television show, "The Ugly Truth", run by Mike Chadway (Gerard Butler), whose cynicism about relationships prompts Abby to call into the show to argue with him on-air. The next day, she discovers that the station is threatening to cancel her show because of its poor ratings, and the station owner has hired Mike to do a segment on her show to bring them back up.

At first, the two have a rocky relationship; Abby thinks Mike is crass and disgusting while Mike finds Abby to be a control freak. Nevertheless, when she meets the man of her dreams, a doctor named Colin (Eric Winter) living next to her, Mike persuades her to follow his lead. She agrees to his helpful advice and if he can get her the man she wants, proving his theories on relationships, she will work happily with him, but if Mike fails, he agrees to quit.

Mike succeeds in improving the ratings of the show, helps bring the married co-anchors closer together, and successfully guides Abby to be exactly what Colin would want. Mike is invited to appear on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and is being offered the chance to move to another network. Abby is forced to cancel a romantic weekend away with Colin, during which they had planned to finally sleep together, and instead go with Mike and persuade him to stay with the morning show. After the show, they go for drinks and dancing, and Mike admits he doesn't want to move and is happier to stay in Sacramento with his sister and nephew. In the elevator, they passionately kiss and almost get to the point of intense sex but leave for their separate rooms when the doors open. Mike, dealing with his inner conflict of the intensity of his feelings for Abby, calls on her room only to find Colin has shown up to surprise her. He leaves Abby to be with Colin. Abby is upset and soon realizes Colin only likes the woman she has been pretending to be, not the real her, and she breaks up with him.

Mike leaves for another local station, but ends up doing an outside broadcast at the same hot-air balloon festival as Abby, and he cannot resist returning to argue with her when she kicks the new "Mike Chadway" imitator off the air and goes into a tirade about men. The balloon they are standing in takes off while they argue and finally, Abby tells Mike she broke up with Colin, and Mike admits he loves her. Abby then kisses him and they are shown kissing passionately while flying off in the balloon. Despite their obvious differences, they stay together and at the end of the movie, are shown having intense sex. Mike, unsure of whether he's taught Abby how to fake too well, asks if her response at climax was genuine after the lights are switched on. Abby responds by smiling and saying he'll never know before shutting off the lights again.

Plot
The film begins with Buddy as a baby being placed in the crib by a nun. As Santa Claus comes down to the room, Buddy discovers that there is a teddy bear in the sack and crawls in just until he's brought to the North Pole where the elves continue to make toys. Buddy is raised by Papa Elf and manages to stand up and grows up in a sequence into a big guy. He seems to be too big to be an elf. In the toy testing room, he demonstrates the jack-in-the-boxes to pop open and he gets a little frustrated. He overhears other elves complaining about him not realizing that he is a human, which causes him to faint in shock.

Buddy learns from Papa Elf and Santa that his father is a businessman in New York City who is unfortunately on the naughty list. He decides to travel from the North Pole to meet his dad at the Empire State Building, but he is mistaken for a Christmas-gram. His behavior gets him thrown out, and he wanders to Gimbels department store. He is thought to be an employee and meets Jovie, a worker at the store who is not too thrilled about Christmas. Buddy is immediately smitten with her.

His enthusiasm for Christmas and being an elf gets in the way everywhere he goes, at Gimbels and at his father's job. He eventually befriends his half-brother, and asks Jovie on a date. On Christmas Eve, a misunderstanding leads to him being thrown out by his father, and he walks through Central Park to discover Santa with his sleigh. He needs Buddy's help to get everyone's Christmas spirits back up so he can fly, and his family and Jovie help. Christmas is saved.

Buddy ends up writing his own children's book about his adventure, and the film ends with Buddy visiting Papa Elf at the North Pole, accompanied by Jovie and their baby daughter, Susie.
